'Big Brother' Will Be Watching Economic Transactions

Every economic transaction of tax-payers with banks, insurance companies, credit card companies, mobile phone providers, power electricity and water supply corporations will be digitally monitored by the Greek Ministry of Finance, according to a recent official announcement.
The Ministry ordered financial institution and companies to digitally send the data of their clients to the General Secretariat of Information Systems. The data will then be processed and crosschecked in order to track tax-payers who hide income sources and are at the same time “big spenders.”
The information must be sent through August 20 to the GSIS of the Greek Finance Ministry.
Private insurance companies will be obliged to submit every data concerning their clients and the sum they are paying for their insurance. The same will apply to state insurance agencies that will have to send the date for obligatory social security contributions of employees to the GSIS.
Mobile phone providers, power electricity and water supply corporations will be obliged to send every data concerning billing sums, social security number, and money that has been paid by the clients.
Credit card and credit card transaction clearance companies will have to provide the data concerning transactions for cards that were issued both in Greece and abroad.
The data refers to economic transactions in 2011, apart from the credit cards that were issued outside Greece and bank transactions that will have to present 2010 figures.
