Cyber Crime Unit Uncovers SMS Scam

A gigantic SMS text scam against several dozens of Greek citizens was uncovered by the Cyber Crime Unit.
The scam message sent to mobile phones was written in English and their sender was a number registered in the UK, belonging to non-existent Blackberry Company.
According to the authorities, the scam messages informed their recipients that their mobile number had won a contest and the consequent 2 million pounds award.
The unknown senders asked the recipients to send back personal information, such as name, e-mail, country and bank account, where the money would be transferred.
By the time the unsuspected victim sent the personal data, the offenders used false credit cards to withdraw any money deposits from the bank accounts.
The first victims of the Nigerian fraud were located in Greece and later on in several other European countries.
