The Concert of Byzantine Music will take place this Sunday at St George College Performing Arts and Sports Centre to celebrate teacher Ilias Fragoulis and the history of the Assocation of Friends of Byzantine Ecclesiastical Music.
Since Fragoulis’ arrival to Australia in 1955, he has taught Byzantine music to anyone who wished to learn. His students are now in the hundreds and have attained positions in their respective church choir, not only in Australia but also in Greece and America.
Mr Fagoulis was given the honorary title of Archon of the Holy Archdiocese of Australia for his commitment. He has never asked to be paid for any of these lessons.
