New Edition of ‘History of Greek Philosophy’ in Persian

After 15 years since its premier release, translators of “The History of Greek Philosophy” are preparing a new edition of the volumes in Persian.

Dr Hassan Fathi, professor at the University of Tabriz and co-translator of the book, said the author William Keith Chambers Guthrie makes a survey of the philosophy of Greece from the very beginning up until Aristotle in these volumes.

He continued to say that the original volume was published in six volumes but the translations filled in 18 volumes published by Fekr-e Rooz. The publication of the series began in 1996 and went on for three years.

He confirmed that the new edition of the translations will be released in six volumes.

Fathi continued, “The work is the most standard history of Greek Philosophy and is the lengthiest work available in Persian that is cited by a large number of Persian students.”

Introducing Mahdi Ghavam-Safari as co-translator and editor of the new edition, he said, “After 15 years since its first publication in Persian, we realized that some necessary revisions should be made and it is good to include the useful suggestions of the readers as well.”
