The only thing that escaped the raging fires in Mt. Mela, Victoria, was the iconostasis of Mt. Mela, which included a very old icon of Panagia Soumela. And now, this icon was stolen.
“I can’t believe it! This icon was there for 10 years. Many worshippers went there and prayed in front of it”, said Mr. Onoufrios Gorozidis, head of the Mt. Mela Foundation in Flowerdale, Melbourne. Mr. Gorozidis appealed to anyone having the priceless icon to return it.
“This icon of Panagia Soumela is miraculous. Our ancestors from Pontus brought it with them and it was a donation on behalf of the Elefteriadis family to Mt. Mela”, added Mr. Gorozidis.
