Hellenic Professional Society of Illinois Kicks-off 86th Year

The Hellenic Professional Society of Illinois (HPSI), one of the longest-surviving organizations in the Chicago Greek community, has launched its 86th year, with a new board and exciting plans for the upcoming year. HPSI was founded in 1925 by a small group of professionals who shared a love of conversation, intellectual debate and a thirst for knowledge, beauty and wisdom.

 

This summer, elections for officers and directors were held. Jenny Stavropoulos, a member since 2007, was elected president. Jenny is a financial analyst, who’s worked for Fortune 500 companies, including Wm. Wrigley Company, Tenneco Automotive and the Brunswick Corporation. Among her initiatives, is building on the partnerships they have established with organizations such as National Hellenic MuseumGreek Media ClubDailyFrappe.comEuroCircle.

 

Other officers include Vice-President George Goltsos; Treasurer Marika Pappas; Corresponding Secretary Mary Sakellaris; Recording Secretary Alexandra Alexander; Chris Massouras as Historian; Michael LaMonica in charge of marketing and PR; and Technology Director Alexander Facklis. Immediate Past President is Demetra L. Markopoulos. Directors are George C. Costakis, George P. Logothetis, Menia Poulios, Denise Rekoumis and Tom Vabakos.

 

Since its inception, HPSI has served as a meeting ground for professional individuals of Hellenic descent. HPSI hosts many events throughout the year, including: lectures on cultural, historic and business topics, social and philanthropic events.
