The government is not only going against the popular interests of Greeks living in Greece in an unacceptable manner, but is also having a detrimental effect on the Greeks of the Diaspora. It has closed consulates and is now closing schools, undermining Greek language education of the Greeks of the Diaspora, according to Vassilis Primikiris, Member of the Panhellenic SYRIZA Coordinating Committee and Head of SYN’s Department on Issues for Greeks of the Diaspora, remarking on the closure of Greek schools abroad.
SYN and SYRIZA believe that public education must be provided to the Greek children abroad to strengthen their hellenicity, prevent the forced assimilation into the societies in which they live, and ensure equal opportunities in education with young people of the countries where they live. It is also a way to ensure a smooth integration into the Greek society, in case they return to Greece.
