Family Murder in Crete

A 32 year-old man was killed by his 72 year-old father-in-law on August 15th, in Marediana, Crete.
The 32-year old man, along with his wife – daughter of the offender – and their two children lived in Chania, but personal problems faced by the couple forced the woman to take the baby and go to her family home in Marediana.
The oldest child of the family stayed in Chania with his grandfather – father of the victim, while the father went to Marediana to retrieve his wife.
Upon his wife’s refusal, the man took the three-month-old baby in the baby-cot, and headed to his car.  Across from him was his father-in-law with whom he had fought with earlier. The 72-year-old man threatened him with a shotgun and told him to leave the baby.

The man sat the baby-cot down at the sight of the gun, when his father-in-law shot him four times in the chest and abdomen, killing him. The offender disappeared by the time police arrived.
Eventually, the 72 year-old man revealed himself to the police, and confessed that he had killed his son-in-law.  He handed over the shotgun and was arrested.
