“This is MY Athens”, a new tourist service that welcomes travelers in Athens will be launched this tourist period by the Municipality of Athens, through the Tourism and Economic Development company. The purpose of the new service is to bring together Athens city visitors with Athens locals, which means people who want to explore the city with those who know it better than anyone, its inhabitants.
The program addresses Athenian volunteer citizens who want to spend time with visitors to the city and share a part of their lives with them showing them the different faces of Athens, and tourist attractions that they will not find in travel guides, such as their favorite cafes, the best cocktails places or even secret places where locals go with their friends and enjoy a good view of the city. The main purpose of this program is to enrich the visitors’ experiences in the city of Athens and bring its citizens closer to other civilisations.
More than 150 volunteers have registered through the www.thisisathens.org website in the ”This is MY Athens” Program, aiming to welcome new visitors to the city of Athens and promote cultural exchange between locals and travelers.
