Jenny Bloomfield Elected Australia's New Greek Ambassador

The Delegation of the Greek Council, Australia held a meeting with the new Ambassador of Australia in Athens, Jenny Bloomfield. In a statement, the Council welcomed the appointment with the new ambassador and noted that the meeting had been constructive.
“From my new position I will try to promote the image of a diverse, tolerant and successful Australian state, which is ready to cooperate with Greece in a broad range of our common interests,” said Mr Bloomfield.
The coordinator of the Counci,l George Vellis, said that “the Greek Council looks forward to further strengthening the relations with the Australian embassy in the Greek capital and promoting all aspects of Greek-Australian cooperation” and added, “given that the 100th anniversary of ANZACS is coming up, this will be one of the main points we will focus on as part of our cooperation. ”
Foreign Minister, Kevin Rudd announced last Tuesday, 19, July, the placement of Ms. Jenny Bloomfield in her new position, that is the new ambassador of Australia to Greece. Ms. Bloomfield is expected to take over former ambassador Jeremy Newman’s responsibilities in August. He has been serving in Athens since March 2008.
The new Australian ambassador is a diplomat in the Foreign Ministry. Until recently, she had worked as an assistant secretary of the Department for the Middle East, and had previously served in various positions in the Australian embassy, in Iran and Japan. Except for Greece, she will also represent Australia as an ambassador in Albania and Bulgaria, always based in Athens.
It is worth mentioning that Ms. Bloomfield speaks Greek, and received her degree from the Department of Modern Greek, at the University of Melbourne. She is married and a mother of four children.
In the same announcement, Foreign Minister, Kevin Rudd grabbed the opportunity to highlight the very high level of relations between Greece and Australia.
