The children of the provinces are more vulnerable to addiction to the Internet than those living in the urban centers, because the former have less opportunities to entertain themselves than the latter. A recent survey of Adolescent Health Unit of the Hospital Paidon – A. Kyriakou in a nationwide sample of students aged between 14-16 years, showed that the proportion of adolescents with behavioral dependence is higher in cities than in the region of Attica. In particular, it was found that:
-2.4% of adolescents present behavioral dependence while 19.1% are found to be one step before the addiction.
-Boys and girls, nowadays, seem to use the Internet on a same level, unlike the past when the boys used it more.
-Social networks are the most common reason why adolescents with behavior dependence use the Internet, followed by online games.
-63% of adolescents indicated that they publish their personal data on the Internet.
-Adolescents with behavioral addiction play lucky games (online gambling) and use material with sexual content more often than other people.
