German Foreign Minister Westerwelle Asks for Re-Opening of Theological School of Halki

“The Theological School of Halki is a very important culture site, an integral part of the European culture,” said German Foreign Minister Guido Westerwelle, who visited the School.

“By my presence here I want to encourage and express my hopes to the prospects of its reopening. The School has a wonderful library. I hope that the School will soon reopen, and its Library will serve the academic needs of students in School”, said the German Minister.

An announcement of the Ecumenical Patriarchate was issued today saying that Mr. Westerwelle visited the School last Saturday, accompanied by the Ambassador of Germany Dr.Eckart Cuntz, the Consul General of Germany Brita Wagener and team officials of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The German Foreign Minister was welcomed at the School by the Metropolitan of Moschonissia Apostolos Daniilidis, the Deacon Mr. Joachim Billis, the Undersecretary of the Synod, and Father Dositheos Anagnostopoulos, Director of the Press Office of the Patriarchate.

Mr. Westerwelle made a tour in the Catholic School, in the classrooms, the library and other locations, and also signed the Book of Guests.
