A large exhibition of American photographer Robert Mapplethorpe’ work is being organized for the very first time at the Onassis House of Letters and Arts, in Greece. It will present one-hundred out of thousands of photographs, maintained in the namesake building in New York.
Robert Mapplethorpe, whose artistic career was interrupted abruptly with his death from AIDS, is considered to be a milestone in the avant-garde stage of New York, during the 70’s and 80’s.
The exciting exhibition is the tipping point of the artistic programme of the Onassis House of Letters and Arts for 2011-2012, presented on May 30th by the President of the Institution A. Papadimitriou and his partners Christos Karras, Afroditi Panagiotakou, Katia Arfara, and Marilena Karra. It covers a range of arts: theater, dance, music, painting, conversations, lectures, educational programmes.
The Aim of the House of Letters and Arts is to ”discover the contemporary side of our civilization, its pluralism and Hellenicity”. Greek and international productions from all types of arts will be hosted at the Sigrou Avenue building.
