Deputy PM Denies Statement in “Hurriyet” Turkish Paper

The website of the Turkish newspaper Hurriyet published a statement of the Greek Deputy Prime Minister Theodoros Pangalos, who was attributing Greece’s current situation to people’s laziness and was comparing the country to Turkey, which works hard and now has a strong economy.
The Opposition party reacted negatively to that statement, especially to the comments concerning the participation of the National Bank of Greece to Finansbank.
The publication mentioned that Mr. Pangalos characterized as “nationalists” those who opposed the deal between the two companies, referring to the Oppostition which was in the government at that time. New Democracy’s spokesman Yiannis Michelakis said that the Deputy Prime Minister is out of control. However, Mr. Pangalos’ office supported that during his visit to Istanbul, where he met with the Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew, he didn’t speak to any journalists and didn’t give any interviews.
