The German football championship is without any doubt, one of the best championships in the world. But, in the stroke of the DFB, as well as the DFL, two Greek girls have stolen everybody’s heart.
35-year-old Elena Dimitriou, who invited us to her second home and talked in the “Sunday Espresso”: “I have been working in a bank, in the management sector, as this is what I have studied. One day, I read in the newspaper an advertisement of the Football Federation for the position in the management section of the small national teams”.
“I immediately applied for it, but to be honest, I didn’t believe that I would have any chance. Today, I could admit that I have won the lottery. Only during the first months I faced the disbelief of my colleagues, especially the men. I had to prove that I was worth the position and the only way was through my work. Until today, I am the only woman in this job. I am responsible for the national youth team. The whole organization had to pass from my hands. There were nights that I couldn’t sleep from the anxiety of the next day. The responsibility was very big but the temptation success, too. Luckily, here nothing comes as a gift. I say “luckily”, because if you prove you are worth the job, nobody bothers you anymore, you win the respect and the appreciation of everybody.”
The General Secretary of the Federation, Volfag Niersbach, who has the highest rank in the Federation stated, “Elena has already cooperated with three presidents, Braun, Forfelder and now with Swantseneger and everybody speaks with the best words for her and that is not by chance. I, personally, also have only the best words to say for her sister, Christina, too who helped me during the 2006 World Cup. If I didn’t have these two girls, I don’t know what I could have done.”
