1st Conference of Thessalic Youth of Europe Conducted in Nuremberg

They want to learn more about Greece, they would like to be given more opportunities to contact and learn the Greek culture, and they make plans for their studies and their life in their country of origin. These dreams of theirs were confessed by the children of Greek expatriates in Germany, who took part in the first conference of the Thessalic Youth of Europe.  The conference took place recently in Nuremberg.

Evagelia Armouti, from the town of Gkeorgkenmporn, near Wiesbaden, tells us that she would like to know more about Greece, its history, its mythology, its ancient culture, but also its today problems. She learned a lot about ancient Greece in her German school, where she was taught the language of ancient Greek for five years.  She liked the fact that she, as a Greek girl, could translate the texts to her German classmates.

Aggeliki Mpozini, from Munich, would like to get more information about her homeland. She would like to get informed about various issues and about the problems that will face the children of Greek expatriates when they return to Greece for their studies, so as to be better prepared. In addition, she wants Greece to welcome the children of the Greek immigrants as “Greek children”, as she says characteristically, because she doesn’t want to feel as a stranger in her homeland, as she feels now in Germany.

Ifigenia Koutsoureli confessed that her dream is to go and live for good in her homeland as a Greek citizen. “When that time comes, I would like to be welcomed as a Greek girl and not as a stranger who came from Germany”. Niki Fourkioti, from Munich, stated that her dream is to live for a long period in Greece but then she wants to come back to Germany where her family lives. She would like to ask from Greece to send to Greeks living in Munich, a lot of music to learn about various artists.

Finally, for Athanasios Ntinoudis, his big wish is that he is not forgotten from his homeland and that he and the other children of the Greek expatriates are not affronted as “second class children”, as he says.
