Greek German Theatre Presents Sophocles’ “Electra”

Sophocles’ “Electra” will be presented by director Costas Papacostopoulos in February in Cologne. Performances will take place from the 16th until the 20th of February at “Studiobuhne Koln”, the oldest University Theater in Germany, collaborating with the German Greek Theatre of Cologne, established by the artist 20 years ago.

The group is comprised of German actors and has been preserved by Mr. Papacostopoulos all these years, presenting plays by Greek and foreign writers. In its successful 20 year course, the group has presented 23 plays in Germany, collaborating with several State Theaters. Until now they have successfully presented works by Aristophanes, Aeschylus, Sophocles, Euripides in German. At the same time he also directed works by Modern Greek and European theatrical writers, inspired by the ancient Greek myth.
His works have been repeatedly awarded and invited in major Festivals held in Germany and abroad. For 2011 Costas Papacostopoulos is planning to present “Oresteia” by Aeschylus, in collaboration with Dusseldorf state theatre and thus concluding the “Atreides” cycle.
