Since January 2010 when the contest started, it has had a wide time limit that is, until the Greek crisis comes to its end; that is the vision of Olympians. On April 2010 the Olympia’s campaign was published online. To participate visit: www.BecomeOlympian.com
The contest’s promotion was planned and distributed via social media sites such as facebook and twitter. But it involved Olympia surroundings. This strategy was adopted for promoting Olympia’s brand name in order to follow the marketing concept of holistic tourism experience.
With just a few clicks, potential visitors around the world can win a free stay at Olympia’s hotels and discover more offers only avaible for: www.BecomeOlympian.com visitors. It’s the first time that a Greek destination plans and promotes a campaign in this style. It uses marketing research, strategic planning and in-house implementation, adding value to all potential visitors of one of Greece’s most historical locations.
The first results of the contest show that visitors at: www.BecomeOlympian.com originate from 71 countries. There are currently 5,000 fans at the facebook fanpage and there are now approximately 90 winners.
The initiative also inspired a roadtrip from Finland to Olympia named “Road Dream”. It is a dream where Finnish athletes started a journey from their hometowns to the birthplace of sports, Greece’s Olympia by bicycle. For more information please visit:
