Tragedy for Greek American Family as Storm Strikes NYC

Investigators from the National Weather Service are still trying to assess whether the short-lived freak storm that brought us gravel-colored skies, felled trees, and all manner of flying objects yesterday afternoon was actually a tornado
A woman was killed when a tree fell on a parked car in Queens. Iline Levakis, 30, the wife of a Greek American from Pennsylvania, was pronounced dead at the scene and her 60-year-old husband suffered minor injuries, police said.
The ferocious winds sent a massive tree crashing onto the car of Iline Levakis after she pulled off the Grand Central Parkway near Jewel Avenue in Forest Hills to escape the blinding rain.
According to the New York Times neighbourhoods in Brooklyn, Queens and Staten Island were the worst hit. Officials couldn’t confirm that the storm was a tornado but it bears some of the characteristics.
