New Greek Seminars on History & Culture at La Trobe University

The Greek Orthodox Community of Melbourne and Victoria and the Greek Studies Program at La Trobe University announced new Greek studies seminars.

The goal of the seminars is to offer the Greeks of Melbourne knowledge on Greek history and culture from antiquity to modern times.

The reason for the seminars is because the Greek studies programs of  Greek public schools of Melbourne do not cover Greek history and culture in full, due to the lack of tutorials and time.

The program will cover the following periods:

1.      Antiquity – Classical Period

2.      Hellenistic Period

3.      Roman Empire – Byzantine Empire

4.      The Francs – The Venetians – The Ottomans – The Greek Revolution

5.      The Greek State 1830 – 1909

6.      Greece in the 20^th century

7.      The Greeks of Diaspora – The presence of Greeks in Australia

The lessons will be in English and Greek,  in order second and third generations to understand. Greek will be used but depends on the audience and subjects. At the end of each semester, a Certificate of Attendance will be granted. The seminars are organized with the support of the General Consulate of Greece in Melbourne.
