The European Commission, European Central Bank and International Monetary Fund- Troika’s team of experts, presented Mr. Papakonstantinou a progress report after their week long visit in Athens. A final meeting will take place this evening.
According to high ranking officials, 9 billion euros second tranche of the EU-IMF support mechanism loan to Greece has been secured, with disbursement scheduled for September 13th. The experts underline that the committments that Greece had assumed for the first semester of the year are either completed or in an advanced level, while the state’s budget is being executed normally.
However many measures have to be implemented. The next step is the Kallikratis local government reorganisation plan, the streamlining of the Hellenic Rail Organisation (OSE) which is the country’s biggest loss-making organisation, and the opening of the closed markets. The Greek government committed to act quickly on the new stages of the country’s reform plan in order to take Greece out of the fiscal crisis as quickly as possible.
