Distinguished Greek-Australians commented on the new Prime Minister

Athanasios Synodinos, who was in the political office of John Howard, the former Australian Prime-Minister of Liberals, and Niki Savva, a reputable journalist who worked in the past for Howard and for the Minister for Finance, commented on the new Prime Minister of Australia, Julia Gillard.

Both of them mention as positive elements of mrs. Gillard her emotional intelligence, self-discipline, ability to take important decisions and also a more feminine approach to the issues. Savva also compares the new PM with Margaret Thatcher.
In addition, they consider that she will be a considerable rival of Tony Abbott, the leader of the Opposition in the Australian House of Representatives who hasn’t so many opportunities for attack comparing to Kevin Rudd in the past.
In the meanwhile, among the recent changes in the leadership of the Labor Party of Australia and the famous government team, known as the team of four (Kevin Rudd, Julia Gillard, Wayne Swan, Lindsay Tanner) we have also the resignation of the Minister for Finance, Lindsay Tanner who was overshadowed by the election of Gillard as the first woman Prime Minister of Australia.
Tanner who is also a philhellene and he speaks Greek, was resigned due to personal reasons, irrelevant with the changes within the Labor Party and he had discussed his resignation in the recent past with Kevin Rudd. Mr. Rudd had persuaded him to re-consider his decision.
