Dogecoin Dog is making a miraculous recovery. The Shiba Inu was seventeen years old when it became famous as the basis for the “Doge” meme.

On Christmas Eve, the dog’s owner, Atsuko Sato, posted a series of Instagram updates claiming that the pet had stopped eating and drinking and was in critical condition.

On Friday, December 30th, however, Atsuko Sato updated her 440,000 Instagram followers with the good news that Kabuso was doing okay after visiting the vet and being given antibiotics. It was reported that the dog had already eaten a full dinner and gone for a stroll.

The post read:

It’s the morning of the 5th day since Kabosu fell ill. She had completely finished her meal of chicken tenders. She drinks plenty of water. She no longer needs diapers, as she can go to the bathroom on her own. I’m amazed at how quickly she bounced back. I took her for a five-minute walk to the park today. She looked happy in the sun and fresh air. I thank you all for your prayers. The Miracle of Kabosu couldn’t have happened without your warm wishes and prayers. Thank you.

Atsuko shared a photo of herself and Kabuso hugging on December 25th with the caption, “Pumpkin has been sick since Christmas Eve. Not drinking or eating from me. Going to the hospital today. We enjoyed taking everyone’s Christmas pictures.”

Atsuko added that the dog had jaundice, chronic lymphoma leukemia, and acute cholangiohepatitis.

Doge memes and cryptocurrencies

Kabosu, a rescue dog saved in 2008, first gained attention in 2010 when she was five years old and full of energy.

Kabosu’s owner wrote a blog post on her and included numerous images of the Shiba Inu. The internet then ran with it, creating the now-familiar doge speak in comic sans, with phrases such as “so concern, much wow” among others. In other words, the doge meme entered the world.

In 2013, the doge meme was named Meme of the Year by Know Your Meme. Since then, the internet meme known as “doge” has spawned an entire cryptocurrency called “dogecoin” in addition to being featured in applications, a Delta Air Lines safety film, and Swedish public transportation advertisements. A definition for “Doge” was included in the 2015 edition of Dictionary.com.

Two software programmers decided to have some fun three years after that fateful shot was taken. They mocked the ridiculousness of Bitcoin by developing Dogecoin, an unlimited-supply digital cryptocurrency.

Elon Musk jokingly referred to Dogecoin as “the people’s crypto.” Yet its value increased by almost four thousand percent last year.

Dogecoin showed rapid growth, and it finally became its own meme. Indeed, it gave rise to a new kind of digital currency known as “meme coins.”
