In a previous tweet, citizens were also urged to stay away from the area surrounding the New York City subway station due to the shooting and the subsequent investigation.
The subway station, located in the Brooklyn neighborhood of Sunset Park, is a crowded destination during the morning rush hour. The D, N and R subway lines pass through the station. These lines will be delayed due to the attack on the subway station in New York.
Sunset Park is home to large Latino and East Asian communities and has one of the lowest crime rates in Brooklyn.

The attack comes during a time of marked increase in violent crime, particularly gun violence, in New York City.
According to Police Department statistics, shootings in the city have risen to 296 from 260 at the same time last year. New York City Mayor Eric Adams, a former police officer, made reducing crime and gun violence in the city the center of his campaign.
While New York City is certainly not the most dangerous US city, gun violence has become a bigger issue in more recent memory, and violent crime and shootings have increased substantially since hitting historic lows in 2018 and 2019.
