Presentation of Greece's EU Presidency Logo

EU presidency LogoThe new logo of the Greek Presidency of the European Union, which will begin in January 2014 is rather simple, making reference to Greek elements such as the sea and summer since it forms a small boat. The logo was officially presented today, by Greek Minister of Foreign Affairs, Evangelos Venizelos, during a special event at the “Yiannos Kranidiotis” Auditorium.
“We will do our best to promote the idea of further European integration. We will do our best to present a balanced and fair image of Greece,” Venizelos stressed.
In regards to the economy and Greece’s image, after six years in recession and three years of tough austerity to avert the risk of default, Athens aims to highlight the positive signs that the crisis is near the end and Greece is no longer a country in crisis, he said. “It is of major importance to us to show the progress achieved,” Venizelos underlined. “Greece will represent over the next six months a European Union which must show its belief in great values, such as solidarity, and a growth model which will safeguard that we will not live similar crises,” he added.
According to the ministry, the logo will be the communicative “seal” of the Greek Presidency and will accompany each activity.
The Greek Presidency officially begins on January 1, 2014 and will last until June 30, 2014. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs seeks to make the activities of the Presidency known and to communicate any developments to the general public in this interactive way through accounts on social networks.
The ministry’s account was welcomed with tweets by the President of the European Council, Herman Van Rompuy, the Italian Prime Minister, as well as hundreds of senior officials and citizens.
Due to austerity, Greece will spend some 30 million euros (40.5 million U.S. dollars) during its EU Presidency compared to the 60-80 million euro budgets of previous presidencies.
