Produced by Alex Lyras “Heterosexuals” Premieres October 15th

The latest product of actor/writer/producer Alex Lyras is called “Heterosexuals”.  The comedy was shot in New York City and is premiering at the James Bridges Theater on the UCLA campus October 15th. The Greek-American was an executive producer of the movie and also stars in it as “The Client”. “Heterosexuals” is written and directed by Robert McCaskill.

The movie is about three different stages of love and revolves around heterosexual characters and the strange situations that they create in their everyday lives. Rhonda wants to kick her habit of sleeping with terrible men. The Client (Alex Lyras) is happily married because he has so much sex on the side. Nicky just slept with his girlfriend’s niece.  Larry feels okay about touching Alexandra but won’t kiss her because he’s married. Denny has never been more attracted to her husband, but hasn’t touched his penis in a month. And Ellia is the prettiest girl in New York and no one can see it.

Alex Lyras was born and raised in New York. He also lives in Los Angeles. His first solo performance “Desperelics” was produced in 2000 at the Gene Frankel Theater in New York, and later at the HBO Workspace in Los Angeles. It lead to a development deal with NBC based on his characters and a roll in Mike Nichol’s “What Planet Are Your From?”.  “Unequalibrium”, his second solo effort (co-written and directed by Robert McCaskill), was produced in 2002 at the Gene Frankel in New York and selected for publication in “New Playwrights: Best Plays of 2002” as well as “Best Men’s Monologues For the Twenty First Century”. The show was produced again in Los Angeles where it was nominated for a 2003 Dramalogue Award. Lyras and McCaskill have also sold two hour dramas to FOX: “LA Residential”, a dramedy about real-estate agents in Los Angeles, and “The Hiers”, about a Greek shipping mogul and his three competitive daughters. “The Common Air”, Lyras and McCaskill’s third collaboration for the stage, was produced in Los Angeles in the  fall of 2007 and ran for five months. The dramedy links 6 characters during an airport delay, due to possible terrorist activity. As an actor, Lyras most recently appeared in the independent romantic comedy “Mona”, which he also executive produced. “Mona” won the Best Picture Award at the 2008 Malibu Film Festival.
