Miltiadis Tentoglou won the men’s long jump at the Diamond League meeting in Lausanne on Friday, while Lefteris Petrounias claimed bronze on the still rings at the European Artistic Gymnastics Championships in Zagreb.
Tentoglou secured victory with a best jump of 8.24 meters, while Petrounias scored 14.366 points in the rings final to earn the eleventh European medal of his career.
Tentoglou wins with 8.24 meter jump
Opening the competition in Lausanne, Tentoglou recorded 8.04 meters with a tailwind of 2.2 meters per second. The 28-year-old Greek athlete moved into the lead in the second round with 8.24 meters and a +2.1 m/s wind. Although the wind reading exceeded the legal limit for record purposes, the distance remained valid for the competition.
His next two attempts measured 8.10 meters with a +0.9 m/s wind and 8.17 meters with a +1.2 m/s wind. With the lead secured, he did not take his final two jumps. Switzerland’s Simon Ehammer finished second with 8.13 meters, while Serbia’s Luka Bošković placed third with 8.07 meters.
Tentoglou continues strong 2026 season
The Lausanne victory followed Tentoglou’s fourth consecutive European outdoor long jump title earlier in August at the European Athletics Championships in Birmingham. A jump of 8.44 meters secured the title, ahead of Ehammer and Bulgaria’s Bozhidar Saraboyukov. The result made Tentoglou the first man to win four consecutive European outdoor long jump titles.
In July, the Greek athlete recorded 8.61 meters in Monaco. He also reached 8.66 meters at the Greek Championships in Volos, equaling Louis Tsatoumas’ Greek national record. His career record includes two Olympic gold medals, a world outdoor title, two indoor world titles, and four consecutive European outdoor championships.
The results for Tentoglou and Petrounias came in separate competitions on the same day, with the action shifting from athletics in Lausanne to gymnastics in Zagreb.
