Miltos (Miltiadis) Tentoglou has made European athletics history, winning his fourth consecutive European outdoor long jump title with a leap of 8.44 meters in Birmingham.
The Greek Olympic champion entered the final as the favorite after comfortably qualifying with an 8.26-meter jump. But Switzerland’s Simon Ehammer provided a serious challenge, ultimately taking silver with 8.29 meters. Bulgaria’s Bozhidar Saraboyukov won bronze with 8.26 meters.
Tentoglou’s winning jump came on his fourth attempt. He had already opened with 8.27 meters, followed by jumps of 8.19 and 8.27 before producing the decisive 8.44-meter effort.
The victory extends a remarkable European Championship streak that began in Berlin in 2018. Tentoglou retained his title in Munich in 2022 and won again in Rome in 2024 before completing the unprecedented four-title run in Birmingham.

His latest achievement places him in a category of his own in the history of the men’s European outdoor long jump. He is the first man to win the event at four consecutive European Championships.
The consistency is particularly striking because Tentoglou has maintained his dominance across nearly a decade, repeatedly defeating the best long jumpers in Europe.
At 28, the Greek star continues to add to one of the strongest championship records in modern long jump. His fourth European title also follows his Olympic gold medal at Tokyo 2020 and another Olympic title at Paris 2024, further establishing him as one of Greece’s most successful track and field athletes.
For Tentoglou, Birmingham was not simply another defense of a European crown. It was the night he turned an extraordinary run of success into a piece of European athletics history.
