Greece’s Ministry of Culture will once again light up the country’s historic treasures for the annual August Full Moon celebrations in 2026. The flagship event takes place on Friday, 28 August 2026, inviting locals and international visitors to experience Greece’s ancient heritage illuminated by the summer moon.
Marking its 27th consecutive year, the cultural initiative grants free entry to 126 archaeological sites, historic locations, monuments, and museums across the nation.
Concerts, Theater, and Late-Night Access
The 2026 program combines late-night access with live artistic performances:
Live Cultural Events: 61 participating archaeological sites, monuments, and museums will host organized events, including live musical concerts, theatrical performances, dance recitals, art exhibitions, and guided tours.
Extended Night Openings: An additional 65 venues will open their gates strictly for evening strolls under the moonlight. Most sites will welcome visitors with free admission from roughly 19:30–20:00 until midnight.
Multi-Day Festivities: While the peak celebration centers on the full moon night of August 28, the broader festival schedule runs across five consecutive days, featuring select events on August 26, 27, 29, and 30.
The expansive lineup is organized by regional services of the General Directorate of Antiquities and Cultural Heritage alongside the General Directorate of Restoration, Museums and Technical Works, frequently collaborating with local municipalities and regional cultural associations.
Visitors planning to attend are encouraged to double-check operating hours for specific venues, as individual opening times vary by location. The complete, regularly updated schedule of events and participating sites is available directly on the official platform of the Ministry of Culture.
