Three Turkish drones flew over the Aegean on Tuesday, July 28, recording four infringements of air traffic regulations within the Athens Flight Information Region (FIR) and two violations of Greek national airspace, according to Greece’s military.
The Hellenic National Defense General Staff, or HNDGS, said the incidents occurred in the northern and southeastern Aegean.
Four Athens FIR infringements recorded
According to the Hellenic National Defense General Staff, the three Turkish drones were responsible for four infringements of air traffic regulations within the Athens Flight Information Region, commonly known as the Athens FIR.
The aircraft also violated Greek national airspace on two occasions. The military statement did not provide further details on the drones’ models, their precise flight paths, or the locations of the two airspace violations.
Greek forces intercept Turkish drones
The Turkish drones were identified and intercepted by Greek armed forces in accordance with international regulations and established operational procedures, the HNDGS said.
No further escalation was reported following the interceptions. Turkish authorities had not publicly commented on the reported incidents as of Wednesday morning.
