Greek authorities have identified the woman whose body was discovered within a suitcase in an abandoned building in Athens’ Kypseli neighborhood on July 18, providing investigators with their first major lead in a case that remains under investigation.
The victim has been identified as a British national, born in February 1988, according to information provided to Greek authorities through an official document from the Interpol office in Washington, D.C.
The identification marks a turning point for the Hellenic Police homicide division, which had been working to determine who the woman was after initial searches in Greek databases produced no match.

Immediately after the discovery of the body, investigators collected fingerprints from the victim, but her details were not registered in Greek police databases.

Investigators then expanded their search internationally after clues suggested the victim may not have been Greek.
One detail that drew attention was the clothing found on the woman, including shorts bearing the name of a French university. Police used international cooperation channels to exchange information with foreign law enforcement agencies and Interpol. The case proceeded when Interpol Washington informed Greek authorities that the victim was a 38-year-old British woman identified by the initials E.R.
Investigation turns toward travel history
With the victim’s identity established, investigators are now focusing on reconstructing her movements before her death. According to initial findings, the woman had entered Greece through Cyprus in the period before the discovery of her body. Authorities are expected to examine her travel records, including whether she arrived alone or accompanied by someone else.
Investigators are also seeking information from airlines regarding her journey and accommodations or property she had rented in the Athens metropolitan area during the relevant period.
Greek police are expected to cooperate with Cypriot authorities as part of the investigation, with officials on both sides gathering information that may help clarify the circumstances surrounding her death.
