U.S. President Donald Trump said on Friday that he had ordered the military to be prepared to launch strikes against Iran if the Iranian government attempted to assassinate him, Reuters reported.

“1000 Missiles are Locked and Loaded and aimed at the Islamic Republic of Iran, with thousands of more to immediately follow, should the Iranian Government act on its threat, pronounced in many corners of the Globe, to assassinate, or attempt ‌to assassinate, the sitting President of the United States of America, in this case, ME!,” he said in a Truth Social post.

“Orders have already been given, and the US Military is ready, willing, and able, for a one year period of time, subject to extension, to completely decimate and destroy all areas of Iran.”

Iran has “kept its word”

On the other side of the conflict, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said on Friday that Iran has “kept its word” with the United States after signing a protocol for a ceasefire agreement that the US president said was over.

“So far, Iran has kept its word,” Araghchi said in a post on the social media X, accusing Washington of “violating” the ceasefire by re-imposing economic sanctions on Iran.

“This violation is added to other violations and wrong steps that the US has taken. Let’s face it: there can be no respect if it is not mutual,” the Iranian foreign minister added.

“The war will never end with Iran’s surrender”

The war between Iran and the United States “will never end with Iran’s surrender,” Iran’s chief negotiator in talks with Washington, Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, warned on Friday, according to the Iranian news agency ISNA, following the Donald Trump statement.

“Ending the war is a priority for the countries of the world, but everyone should know that this confrontation will never end with Iran’s surrender,” he said, as hostilities resumed this week between Iran and the United States in the Gulf.

Meanwhile, Egypt and Qatar called on the United States and Iran to resume negotiations, Cairo said on Friday.

In a telephone conversation, Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty and his Qatari counterpart Mohammed bin Abdelrahman al-Thani urged “all sides to choose the path of diplomacy and dialogue and resume negotiations,” according to a statement from the Egyptian Foreign Ministry.

No attacks were reported on Friday as regional mediators sought to salvage diplomatic efforts to permanently end a war that began on February 28 with US-Israeli strikes on Iran.
