The “Trampolino” at Elli Beach, the diving platform and one of the most recognizable structures along the Rhodes coastline and a cherished landmark for generations of locals—has been officially sealed off and is no longer accessible to swimmers.
The Central Harbor Master of Rhodes decided to decommission the historic diving platform due to the severe safety hazards it poses. This development marks the culmination of an issue that has remained in limbo for over a decade. The platform’s structural integrity and safe operation have repeatedly reached the desks of local authorities, yet the matter was never resolved.
Because the required restoration work was never initiated and the pending structural inspection was never carried out, the Harbor Master ultimately followed through on her warnings. By sealing off the structure, she has effectively banned all public access to the iconic platform for the foreseeable future.

The history of the diving platform in Rhodes
The diving platform came to international attention in 2023, when a 92-year-old Greek took a spectacular jump. A video of Giorgos Kagais daring jump from the six-meter diving board garnered over 1.2 million likes on Instagram.
The platform was constructed between 1936 and 1938 during the Italian governance of the Dodecanese islands. It was designed as part of the broader “La Ronda” bathing complex (now known as the Ronda building on Elli Beach), a project attributed to the prominent Italian architect Armando Bernabiti.
Over the decades, jumping off the Trampolino became a local rite of passage. For generations of Rhodian teenagers, successfully diving from the highest tier was a badge of courage.
