The South Aegean Region has launched one of its largest international marketing campaigns to date, right in the center of New York City.

A promotional video showcasing the South Aegean islands is broadcasting 24/7 on the iconic “The Cube” billboard in Times Square. Running from June 13 through July 10, 2026, the campaign introduces the natural scenery, culture, and distinct identity of the Greek islands to millions of residents and commuters in the American metropolis.

Strategic timing and the 2026 World Cup

The timing of the campaign is highly strategic. The New York and New Jersey metropolitan areas are currently hosting major matches for the FIFA World Cup 2026. Because this premier global sporting event has drawn millions of international soccer fans, tourists, and journalists to the city, it provides an ideal backdrop for maximizing destination exposure.

Commenting on the launch, South Aegean Regional Governor George Hatzimarkos described it as a major milestone for the region’s global outreach, noting that the initiative places the islands “from the Aegean, straight to the heart of the world.”

The project is part of a broader international marketing strategy aimed at boosting brand awareness in high-value tourism markets and cementing the Greek islands’ footprint on the global travel map.
