A 54-year-old man, identified as Konstantinos Parasiris, has surrendered to police in Heraklion, Crete for the murder of a 20-year-old man in the Ammoudara area on May 5.

Authorities said the victim, Nikistratos Gemistos, was shot six times. Upon turning himself in and surrendering the firearm, the suspect reportedly told officers he “did what he had to do.”

The motive stems from a November 2023 fatal car accident. Gemistos, then 17 and unlicensed, was driving a vehicle that crashed into a pole, resulting in the death of his 17-year-old passenger—the suspect’s son.

Due to legal frameworks for minors at the time, Gemistos did not face incarceration. Sources indicate the suspect vowed retaliation shortly after his son’s death.

Did killer’s wife play a role in the Crete murder?

Detectives investigating the case are trying to determine the exact role played by the killer’s 56-year-old wife. She was arrested for complicity, having been present at the scene.

Speaking to officers, she pleaded ignorance. “I don’t know anything! I just happened to run into my husband at that spot. I had no idea he was planning to murder him,” she claimed.

The suspect had a history of violence against the victim. A year prior, he was arrested for assaulting Gemistos, prompting the victim to secure a restraining order against him. An investigation into the homicide is ongoing.
