Amidst escalating tensions in the Persian Gulf, a Greek-owned container ship was targeted in the Strait of Hormuz.

According to the maritime security firm Diaplous, the master of the Liberian-flagged containership EPAMINONDAS (IMO 9153862), managed by Maersk, reported that a patrol boat belonging to Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) approached the vessel without prior warning or VHF communication.

The Iranian craft subsequently opened fire, causing significant damage to the ship’s bridge. Fortunately, the report confirms that all crew members are safe and no injuries were sustained. The vessel had departed from the port of Jebel Ali in the United Arab Emirates and was en route to Mudra, India.

This attack occurs against the backdrop of a highly volatile maritime environment. Since late February 2026, the Strait of Hormuz—one of the world’s most critical energy and trade corridors—has been effectively paralyzed.

Following a series of intense military clashes between the United States and Iran, the IRGC has intermittently closed the strait, declaring it off-limits to most international commercial traffic. While a temporary ceasefire was announced in early April, the situation remains extremely fragile and unpredictable.
