Iran has no plans to start a new round of talks with the US, Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmail Baghaei said, arguing that Washington had already violated the agreement through the way it carried it out.

In remarks cited by Al Jazeera, Baghaei said Tehran cannot ignore past US attacks on Iran that occurred during diplomatic engagement. He also said Iran would continue to defend its national interests.

Iran links new tensions to past US talks

Baghaei pointed to what he described as a broader pattern in recent tensions. He said both the US-Israeli war on Iran that began on February 28 and last year’s 12-day war began while Iran and the US were holding talks over Tehran’s nuclear program.

He also rejected the latest US proposals as trivial and described Washington’s demands as unrealistic. According to Baghaei, Tehran does not accept ultimatums and will not replace negotiations with pressure tactics.

Trump escalates pressure with new threats

Baghaei’s remarks came after Donald Trump threatened to strike civilian infrastructure in Iran if Tehran refuses to accept the terms of the deal Washington has put forward.

In an interview with Fox News on Sunday, Trump called the US offer “a very fair and reasonable deal.” He said the proposal would require the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz and confirmation that Iran does not possess enriched uranium.

Trump also warned that if Tehran rejected those terms, the US would strike “every single Power Plant” and “every single Bridge.” Iran has refused to accept what it describes as maximalist demands from Washington.
