George Mylonakis, Deputy Minister to the Prime Minister and one of his close advisors, is in critical condition at Evangelismos Hospital after suffering a brain hemorrhage during a high-level meeting at Maximos Mansion this morning.
According to reports, Mylonakis appeared unwell upon arriving at the Prime Minister’s office for the daily strategic briefing, known as the “morning coffee.” He collapsed during the session and was rushed to the hospital. While he was initially conscious upon arrival, a CT scan revealed a ruptured cerebral aneurysm.
The hospital’s director confirmed that Mylonakis underwent a successful emergency embolization procedure (coiling) to treat the aneurysm. He is currently intubated in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU). Doctors describe his condition as “serious but stable,” noting that the next 24 hours will be critical for his recovery.
The incident has deeply affected the Greek cabinet. Vice President Kostis Hatzidakis, who witnessed the collapse, shared a poignant account in a radio interview with RealFM. “We are all in shock because it happened right in front of us,” Hatzidakis said, visibly moved. “He has two children; he is a man full of energy and life. It occurred right before our eyes during the ‘morning coffee’ session.”
Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis visited the hospital for 45 minutes to receive updates from the medical staff and support the family. Health Minister Adonis Georgiadis and Deputy Minister Marios Themistocleous also remained at the hospital to monitor the situation.
