A Zeibekiko dance performance by a youngster at Syntagma Square after Wednesday’s military parade has taken the internet by storm.

Athens was bathed in a festive atmosphere yesterday as thousands gathered to celebrate the March 25th National Anniversary. While the traditional military parade drew the initial crowds, a new tradition has taken root in Syntagma Square: a vibrant street celebration that erupts immediately after the formal ceremonies conclude.

For the fourth consecutive year, the Alexandros Mousoulos Dance Group hosted its own open-air “glenti” (party) in the heart of the city. A troupe of 120 dancers captivated onlookers with synchronized performances of the Hasapiko and the deeply soulful Zeibekiko.

Zeibekiko: A viral sensation on social media

A young dancer named Manthos became an overnight sensation after his solo Zeibekiko was captured on video in the crowded square. Within just a few hours of being posted to his personal TikTok account, the clip amassed nearly one million views, over 100,000 likes, and thousands of admiring comments.

The crowd in Syntagma stood in a wide circle, mesmerized by the young man’s poise and traditional flair—a moment that perfectly bridged Greece’s historical pride with today’s digital age.

The group’s leader and veteran dancer, Alexandros Mousoulos, also took to the pavement to perform his own signature Zeibekiko, cementing the event as a highlight of the city’s holiday celebrations.
