Giannis Antetokounmpo publicly addressed trade speculation just hours before the transaction deadline, making his long term future with the Milwaukee Bucks clear.

Speaking to the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel ahead of the matchup against the Chicago Bulls, the Greek superstar said his goal is to remain with the Milwaukee Bucks through the end of his playing career.

He emphasized that his preference is not conditional or strategic but personal, stressing that he wants to continue competing for championships in Milwaukee.

Antetokounmpo focused on more titles with the Milwaukee Bucks

Antetokounmpo explained that his motivation centers on building more success with the Bucks rather than seeking opportunities elsewhere. He described his connection to the organization as deeply rooted and said winning additional titles with the same team remains his primary objective.

His comments arrived at a sensitive moment on the league calendar, when trade discussions and roster moves typically intensify, which made his timing especially notable.

Calf issue kept him out against Chicago

The Bucks star did not play in the game against Chicago due to a calf problem. However, he stayed close to the team during the matchup to offer support from the sideline.

According to his remarks, a recent attempt to return to action earlier than planned contributed to the setback and forced him back out of the lineup.

Why Antetokounmpo chose to play through pain earlier with the Milwaukee Bucks

Addressing that earlier decision, Antetokounmpo said he pushed to get back on the court because of his emotional investment in the team and the project built in Milwaukee. He framed his career there as something he has constructed piece by piece and wants to keep developing rather than seeing parts removed.

He underscored that his drive to play comes from commitment to the group and pride in what the franchise has created, reinforcing his message that Milwaukee remains where he wants to continue his journey.

Fourth-highest earning NBA player for 2025 season

Antetokounmpo’s influence extends far beyond the scoreboard. According to Forbes, Giannis ranks as the fourth highest-earning NBA player for the 2025 season and is the top earner for the Milwaukee Bucks, with $54.1 million in on-court income, more than double that of the team’s second-highest-paid player, Myles Turner. He also holds the 13th spot among the world’s highest-paid athletes.

In total, Antetokounmpo is projected to earn $99.1 million this season, including $54.1 million from his NBA contract and $45 million from endorsements and business ventures.

His off-court portfolio is just as impressive, featuring partnerships with Nike, Huggies, and JBL, along with investments in the women’s basketball league Unrivaled, the sports-tech startup ScorePlay, and ventures in real estate and a winery in Greece.
