A two-seater training aircraft crashed at Tatoi Air Base (Dekeleia Air Base), north of Athens, this morning (October 8).
The cause of the serious incident remains unknown. The two instructors on board were injured and have been transported to the 251 Hellenic Air Force General Hospital. Reports indicate that one of the occupants is currently in serious condition.
The accident occurred when a section of the wing reportedly detached during the aircraft’s takeoff sequence, causing it to fall to the ground. It happened during a scheduled maintenance flight, with a crew of two pilots and no trainee. The Hellenic Air Force has taken over the investigation into the exact circumstances of the crash.
The aircraft involved in the crash was a Tecnam P2002-JF training plane. These aircraft are Italian-made, two-seater, single-engine propeller planes. They are low-wing aircraft with a fixed landing gear system.
They are specifically used by the Hellenic Air Force for the initial selection and training phase of new air cadets and belong to the 360 Air Training Squadron based at Dekeleia Air Base.
