Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said Monday that Russia struck a power plant in Kharkiv shortly after President Donald Trump announced an energy ceasefire, calling for stronger U.S. pressure on Moscow to secure a reciprocal halt to attacks.
“Immediately after Trump’s Truth Social post, Russia launched a targeted strike on a power plant in Kharkiv. It’s clear that Putin does not read Truth Social,” Zelensky said on October 12.
He urged Washington to maintain sanctions and ensure Russian compliance with any agreement.
Ukraine Offers Reciprocal Halt to Strikes
“If Russia wants us to stop attacking its refineries, it must stop attacking our energy infrastructure,” Zelensky said.
He added that Ukraine was prepared to sign ceasefire guarantees and was awaiting details of discussions between American and Russian officials.
Zelensky accused Moscow of violating the arrangement announced by Trump on Sunday and warned that Ukraine would retaliate if Russian attacks on its energy facilities continued during the winter.
“We support the idea of an energy ceasefire, and now Russia must also demonstrate that it agrees,” he said.
Claims About Russian Data Centers
Separately, Zelensky claimed that Ukrainian strikes on data centers operated by Russian technology company Yandex had reduced the number of automated accounts spreading hostile content online.
“When our strikes hit Yandex data centers, hatred, division and provocations on social media decreased,” he said.
The claims about the impact of the strikes could not be independently verified.
