A tugboat was struck by two unidentified projectiles off the United Arab Emirates on Sunday, sustaining damage and leaving one person with minor injuries, the United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) reported.
The incident occurred northeast of Khor Fakkan while the vessel was traveling southbound. The tugboat continued its voyage despite the damage.
The agency advised vessels in the area to exercise caution and report suspicious activity while authorities investigate. It did not identify the source of the projectiles.
Tanker Struck Near Saudi Arabia
The incident followed a separate attack reported Saturday involving a tanker approximately 68 nautical miles northeast of Al Jubail, Saudi Arabia.
UKMTO said the tanker was struck by an unidentified projectile. All crew members were reported safe and evacuated, with no environmental impact reported.
Maritime Security Amid US-Iran Conflict
The incidents come amid the ongoing US-Iran conflict and concerns over commercial shipping through the Strait of Hormuz, a major route for international oil and natural gas shipments.
Speaking at a CBS town hall, US Vice President JD Vance said fuel prices would be “three times as high” without US Navy operations protecting energy shipments through the strait. Vance accused Iran of attempting to disrupt global energy supplies.
Separately, the US military claimed that 97% of vessels seeking to transit the Strait of Hormuz had passed through safely without being struck by Iranian projectiles.
