The leaders of Greece, Cyprus and Egypt held a summit in Cairo on Wednesday where they reaffirmed their strong relations and discussed developments in the eastern Mediterranean.
Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis highlighted the need for a solution in Gaza during his remarks at the 10th Trilateral Summit.
“We will discuss what is happening in Gaza, and we must strive for a ceasefire and the release of hostages to pave the way for renewed momentum toward a two-state solution,” Mitsotakis stated.
He further stressed the importance of cooperation with other countries in the region that share a similar outlook to address the issue.
“The positive aspect is that we engage in open dialogue, exchanging views and recognizing the necessity of collaboration with other regional players who align with us and support the vision of a stable Middle East, one that does not export its challenges to neighboring regions,” he added.

The prime minister also highlighted the growing economic ties between Egypt and Greece.
“I want to underline the significance of the business forum taking place, which reflects the renewed interest of Greek enterprises in strengthening economic relations with Egypt,” he remarked during another part of his speech.
Various Egyptian, Cypriot and Greek ministers participated in the forum, alongside more than 70 Cypriot and Greek companies and 200 Egyptian companies.
The forum discussed ways to develop bilateral and tripartite cooperation. Discussions covered the energy, infrastructure, industry and agriculture sectors, as well as transportation, logistics and health services.
Strong trilateral relationship
Over the years, Greece, Cyprus and Egypt have developed a strong trilateral relationship, with frequent diplomatic engagements and cooperation in various fields. They have institutionalized their cooperation through regular trilateral summits since 2014.
The discovery of significant natural gas reserves in the Eastern Mediterranean has strengthened their collaboration. They work together on energy exploration, exploitation and transportation, focusing on the development of pipelines and infrastructure.
Last year Greece and Egypt signed an agreement on the establishment of a High-Level Cooperation Council.
“For us today is an excellent day for this strategic cooperation with Egypt,” Mitsotakis said at the time. “Egypt’s stability and prosperity are of the utmost importance for the EU, and Greece is a supporter,” the Greek Prime Minister stressed.
