President-elect Donald Trump nominated Greek American Michael Rigas for the role of Deputy Secretary of State for Management and Resources.
“Michael will bring accountability to the State Department as he did Government-wide, when he served in my First Term as the Deputy and Acting Director of the Office of Personnel Management, and the Acting Deputy Director for Management at the Office of Management and Budget,” Trump wrote on Truth Social.
“Mike is a conservative warrior who knows how Government works, and will help Make America Great Again,” he added.
Who is Michael Rigas
Michael Rigas is the Deputy Director of the United States Office of Personnel Management and Acting Deputy Director of Management at the Office of Management and Budget. Over the past 20 years he worked in the private, public and non-profit sectors, with a record of improving organizational performance and streamlining operations.
At General Services Administration (GSA), Rigas served both as Senior Advisor and as Associate Administrator. At the Massachusetts Department of Veterans’ Services he served as Chief of Staff and later at the Heritage Foundation in Washington, D.C.
Rigas’s private sector experience includes the Mellon Financial Corporation and Brown Brothers Harriman & Co. He holds an M.A. in public administration from Harvard University’s John F. Kennedy School of Government and a B.A. and an M.A. in economics from Boston University.
The America First Policy Institute (AFPI)
Rigas is involved in The America First Policy Institute (AFPI), a right-of-center policy think tank and advocacy organization founded in 2021 by Brooke Rollins and Larry Kudlow, former advisors to President Donald Trump. It was founded to promote former U.S. President Donald Trump’s public policy agenda.
It promotes policies that put the American people first, with a focus on liberty, free enterprise, national greatness, American military superiority, foreign-policy engagement in the American interest, and the primacy of American workers, families, and communities.
AFPI engages in various activities, including research, policy development, advocacy, and public education. It has published reports on a wide range of issues, including immigration, energy, healthcare, and national security.
AFPI is affiliated with several other conservative organizations, including the Heritage Foundation and the American Conservative Union.
Some have praised AFPI for its advocacy of conservative principles and efforts to promote policies that benefit the American people. However, others have also criticized it for its ties to the Trump administration and its support for controversial policies.
