A man with a criminal history was found shot dead in the southern Athens suburb of Glyfada early Sunday, October 11, in what authorities suspect may have been a gangland-style execution.
The victim’s body was discovered shortly after 1 a.m. near the intersection of Karamanlis Avenue and Panagouli Street, outside a construction site.
The man had sustained multiple gunshot wounds, including one to the head. Police officers recovered eight spent shell casings from the scene as investigators began examining the circumstances surrounding the killing.
Police Examine Shooting Victim’s Criminal Past
The victim was reportedly known to law enforcement and had been arrested on several occasions in connection with violent incidents.
In 2015, he was arrested for alleged involvement in a group of enforcers operating around nightclubs. Three years later, in 2018, he reportedly shot and wounded a soccer fan outside the Olympic Athletic Center of Athens (OAKA).
He was also linked to another shooting involving a soccer supporter in 2022, outside a fan club on Alexandras Avenue in Athens.
In 2024, the man was arrested on domestic violence charges but was subsequently released under restrictive conditions.
The investigation has been assigned to the Hellenic Police’s Organized Crime Division, which is examining evidence and attempting to reconstruct the sequence of events leading to the fatal shooting.
Authorities are investigating whether the killing was connected to the victim’s criminal past, although the motive has not yet been established.
