Atlanta cinema lovers, and anyone with an interest in contemporary Greek cinema, will have the opportunity to enjoy five cinematic gems representing the best new feature films from Greece and Cyprus at the eighth annual Atlanta Greek Film Expo.

This year’s event is being held October 20 – 22, 2023 at the iconic Tara Theatre, 2345 Cheshire Bridge Rd NE, Atlanta, GA 30324.

“The Greek industry has shown its resilience, weathering the storm of the 2008 global economic crisis as well as the mid-2010s financial meltdown that nearly pushed it from the Eurozone,” said Maria Mandekos Sharp, President of Lykion ton Ellinidon, the nonprofit Hellenic cultural organization organizing the film festival.

“Cameras continued to roll throughout the coronavirus pandemic, and however challenging, the present landscape amid runaway inflation across Europe, Greek filmmakers can justifiably feel their best days are ahead,” she added.

Lykion ton Ellinidon Atlanta, is a non-profit volunteer organization dedicated to preserving Hellenic culture. It strives to share Greek culture with the greater Atlanta community.

“We began bringing Greek film to Atlanta in 2008, which has now grown into our 8th annual Greek Film Expo. We have teamed with the Greek and Cypriot consulates in Atlanta and with the Center for Hellenic Studies at Georgia State University,” Sharp said.

“We are grateful for their strong support over the years. This year, we have the distinct honor to be under the auspices of the General Secretariat of Greeks Abroad and Public Diplomacy of the Greek Ministry of Foreign Affairs.”
