Vytina is a gorgeous, Greek mountain town in Arcadia. The idyllic town, perched on the slopes of Mt. Mainalo, it is surrounded by lush forests of fir.

The area of the town itself, sitting at a high altitude of 1,033 meters (3,389 feet), stretches across the foot of Mt. Mainalo.

Due to its beauty and magnificent natural landscape, Vytina is considered one of the most famous tourist resorts of the Peloponnesian peninsula and one of the best in Greece. Furthermore, it’s perfect for all seasons.

Vytina is known for its fresh mountain air

The impressive fir forest of Mt. Mainalo imbues the town of Vytina with the unique freshness and special fragrance of its trees, providing it with a unique atmosphere.

The natural landscape provides the town with a healthy climate which has made Vytina an important therapeutic place for the body and soul among Greeks for years.

Until 1940, Vytina had two sanatoriums and was a place known for healing people with lung diseases due to its exceptionally fresh, clear air.

With its stately and welcoming, beautiful old stone houses, picturesque streets covered with trees, and main square by an old church, Vytina attracts many visitors seeking an unforgettable vacation.

The Greek mountain village was fundamental in the War of Independence

Vytina also boasts the “road of love,” a stretch of road under the fragrant plane and maple trees that is the ideal place for a romantic walk.

In ancient times, residents of Vytina worshipped the ancient gods Demeter and Poseidon.

In the nearby village of Magouliana, one can find the ruins of an ancient Temple of Poseidon to this day.

Vytina played an important role in Greece’s War of Independence against the Ottomans in 1821, and the town is considered almost sacred for its historical significance.

The area was essential in the war, as it supplied the Greek Army with sustenance, most notably bread, and tended to the injured.

Many chieftains, captains, and fighters in the War of Independence hailed from the area.

In 1825 and 1826, the troops of Ibrahim burned Vytina seven times due to its residents’ active involvement in the liberation struggle.
