Greek NBA star Giannis Antetokounmpo was among those celebrities who attended the glamorous Breitling launch party for the Swiss watchmaker’s two new lines in New York City last week.
The event, held at the Classic Car Club Manhattan, attracted some of the most prominent figures from international fashion media, including influencers and watch collectors, in celebration of the latest additions to the iconic Navitimer collection.
Antetokounmpo attended as one of four members of Breitling‘s so-called Navitimer Squad, joined by Misty Copeland, the principal dancer of the American Ballet Theatre, Bertrand Piccard, an aviation pioneer, and Charlize Theron, an Oscar-winning actor and the face of the new Navitimer 36 and 32.

“They have generously contributed to the Navitimer journey by sharing their stories with
us,” Breitling CEO Georges Kern said of the collection and its celebrity squad. “What began in 1952 as a tool for pilots has gone on to mean something profound to every single person who has had this timepiece along on their personal journey.”
Navitimer’s campaign film For The Journey, starring Charlize Theron, debuted at the event.

Giannis Antetokounmpo posed for photos with fellow Navitimer Squad member Cherlize Theron on the glamorous event’s black carpet.
The bash included stunning modern ballet performances by ABT Studio Company dancers accompanied by jazz drummer Eric Harland, evoking Theron’s past as a ballet dancer. The performance culminated in a presentation of the actress’s campaign film for Navitimer.
“My journey has always been about being up for any challenge,” said Theron. “I traveled from South Africa to Los Angeles when I was quite young, and both that physical journey and the journey of being open-minded and ready for new experiences has served me well personally and professionally.”
About Antetokounmpo’s appearance on the brand’s website, Breitling said that “his willpower, dedication, unwavering vision and desire to give back make him an inspiration in our squad.”
The Swiss watch company, established in 1884, invented the modern chronograph and pioneered the navigational tool watch. In recent years, the watchmaker has increasingly focused on sustainability.
The two newly launched lines in the Navitimer collection are made using “better diamonds,” which are lab-grown and sourced from accredited producers. They also contain “better gold,” traceable to artisanal and small-scale mines that meet the Swiss Better Gold Association’s criteria for social and environmental impact.
Antetokounmpo brothers’ entrepreneurial spirit
The popular NBA MVP, who was raised in Greece, has also recently ventured into business himself.
Giannis and his brothers—Thanasis, Kostas, and Alex—announced their decision to invest in Greek wine company Hellenic Wineries with a ten percent share through their global business portfolio company, Ante Inc..
Hellenic Wineries had previously acquired the historic Boutari Wineries and the Ioli brand of Greek natural mineral water.
According to the announcement, the move reflects the Antetokounmpo brothers’ deep interest in agriculture, their passion for exporting Greek products internationally, and their desire to support the development of a historic Greek sector, such as that of winemaking, in order to make a positive impact on their home country.
