Lisa Marie Presley, the daughter of Elvis Presley, was pronounced dead on Thursday, January 12th after being rushed to the hospital. Later in the evening, her mother, Priscilla Presley, made the following public announcement:
“It is with a heavy heart that I must share the devastating news that my beautiful daughter Lisa Marie has left us. She was the most passionate, strong and loving woman I have ever known.”
Lisa Marie was the only child Priscilla had with Elvis Presley, her ex-husband. Her death must therefore surely come as an anguishing blow to Priscilla and Lisa Marie’s four children, Riley, Benjamin, Harper, and Finley.
Priscilla Presley, now the matriarch of the family once again, had only a single request: “We ask [for] privacy as we try to deal with this profound loss. Thank you for your love and prayers. At this time there will be no further comment.”
Full cardiac arrest cause of death
According to AP News, the former wife of Michael Jackson was at her home in Las Calabasas when she appeared to suffer from cardiac arrest. When the Los Angeles paramedics arrived on the scene a few minutes later, they immediately used CPR to revive her. Lisa Marie was then transported to the hospital closest to her residence in West Hills. She did not survive, however.
Lisa Marie’s death is both a shock and surprise for Hollywood, given her public appearance only a few days prior at the 80th Golden Globes ceremony to celebrate Austin Butler’s Golden Globe nomination and award for his performance in the film Elvis.
Upon news of Butler’s win in Baz Luhrmann’s biopic, she stated “I really didn’t know what to do with myself after I saw it. I had to take, like, five days to process it because it was so incredible and so spot on and so authentic.”

She also retweeted posts from several movie critics praising the film prior to her attendance.
The Presleys
The 54-year-old Lisa Marie was very proud of her heritage as well as her children. Like her mother and her daughter, Riley, they were each able to carve out their own niche in Hollywood as model, singer, and actress.
Still, despite her glamorous, Hollywood background, Lisa Marie faced many struggles in terms of her own life and success. She accused her mother’s second husband, the actor Michael Edwards, of sexual abuse, for example.
She was also married twice—once to musician Danny Keogh, the father of her children, Riley and Benjamin Storm. They divorced in 1992 after only four years. This was twenty days before she married Michael Jackson, whose songs, such as Thriller, still remain popular today. The marriage was troubled due to claims from defendants of sexual abuse by Jackson and his alleged drug abuse. In 1996, citing “irreconcilable differences,” the two divorced.

Yet the sole daughter of the infamous Elvis did have some success as a singer, recording three albums that met with some positive critical acclaim.
“On her first two albums, Lisa Marie Presley wanted to be a pop star with a difference,” All Music stated concerning her third record. “On Storm & Grace, she clearly would rather be an artist, and if she’s still working her musical shortcomings out of her system, this is a stronger, more mature, and more effective work than one might have expected. Nearly ten years into a recording career she may or may not have wanted, Presley is finally developing a musical personality that truly suits her.”
Condolences rolling in
The tributes now pouring in reflect both her distinct looks—i.e. her remarkable resemblance to her father Elvis—as well as her personality and voice.
Rita Wilson, the wife of Tom Hanks who played in the film, immediately expressed her condolences to the family. “Our hearts are broken by the sudden and shocking passing of Lisa Marie Presley tonight. Tom and I had spent some time with the family during the Elvis movie promotional tour. Lisa Marie was so honest and direct, vulnerable, in a state of anticipation about the movie. She spoke so eloquently of her father.”
The Hollywood Foreign Press Golden Globe Awards committee immediately responded: “We are incredibly saddened to hear of the passing of Lisa Marie Presley. She was an extremely talented Singer/Songwriter and a very welcome presence at the Golden Globes this past Tuesday. May you rest in peace.”

“Lisa baby girl, I’m so sorry. I’ll miss you but I know I’ll see you again,” the actor John Travolta wrote on Instagram. “My love and heart goes out to Riley, Priscilla, Harper and Finley.”
